North Down's MP, Mayor and MLAs have today gone on site to view the results of major upgrade work carried out by NI Railways on local rail halts.

This work is part of the £7 million investment package to upgrade stations across Northern Ireland, in order to deliver a better rail service. The work involves new signage, shelters, lighting, seating and re-surfacing, which will offer better access for disabled passengers and improve the environment and journey experience for all passengers.

Lady Sylvia Hermon, Dr Stephen Farry, Mayor of North Down, Alan McFarland MLA, and Brian Wilson MLA visited completed stations at Bangor West and Carnalea and also viewed site works in progress at Seahill station.

Translink’s Property Manager, Tom McClintock said, “It is a very exciting time for N I Railways, and as such it is extremely important for local representatives to see the steps we are taking to upgrade our facilities, for the local communities that they represent. We would like to thank them for taking this opportunity to visit the stations.”

The second phase of the project is due to start before the end of the year, which will see stations on the Larne, and Derry Lines undergo similar upgrades.  The overall project is due to be completed by next summer.

Passengers can access the latest information regarding the project by logging on to www.translink.co.uk or by contacting Translink’s Call Centre on 028 9066 6630.
