New improved Ulsterbus services take to the roads in Donaghadee:
2nd July 2007:
Passengers in the Donaghadee area are benefiting from enhanced Ulsterbus services introduced this week as part of Translink’s ongoing Ulsterbus Strategic Review.
The Review, which aims to improve Ulsterbus provision across Northern Ireland on an area-by-area basis, has seen services in Donaghadee extended to cover more residential areas such as Cypress and Morey. Frequency of the 303A service to Bangor via Bloomfield Shopping Centre - originally a pilot service - has also been enhanced to offer over 200 additional seats daily, from Monday to Friday.
Parents and carers with small children and those with mobility issues are also set to benefit as low floor vehicles have been introduced on all town services. Meanwhile improved passenger information includes simple, easy to use timetables with colour-coded route maps and modern new bus stop infrastructure.
Translink’s District Manager for the area, Richard Hudson said, “We are delighted to be able to introduce these significantly enhanced services for our customers in Donaghadee and we are confident that they will be welcomed by the local community. The developments are designed to improve public transport attractiveness by offering improved connections with other Ulsterbus and Rail Services and an increased number of easy to use, accessible town services which are more suited to our passengers’ needs.
“We are also pleased to announce that to celebrate the start of the new improved services from 2 July until 30 September the initial £1.50 charge to purchase a Smartcard for use on town services will be waived - meaning passengers only pay to top up their journeys. Also a special £3 adult day return fare between Donaghadee and Bangor, serving Bloomfield Shopping Centre, will also be available during the same July-September period. In addition the recently introduced £1.70 day fare which allows unlimited travel on town services within the boundary of Donaghadee on the day on which the ticket is purchased will continue to be available. However, we would remind senior citizens in possession of a Senior Smartpass that they can travel on all our services completely free of charge.”
New timetables for Donaghadee Town services are now available from Bangor or Newtownards Buscentres or by contacting the call centre on 028 90 66 66 30 or visiting www.translink.co.uk.
