Translink invests £3million in New Buses for North Down
18 December 2006
North Down is the recipient of twenty-two new, low-floor single deck buses which have been added to the fleet as part of Translink’s overall order of 110 new vehicles.
The modern new buses, which represent an investment of £3million, form part of Translink’s drive to offer improved levels of service and quality for passengers in the North Down area and significantly reduce the average bus fleet age to 7 years.
The new vehicles are fully accessible and feature enhanced heating systems, double-glazing, a manual ramp for wheelchair and pushchair access and a six-camera CCTV system for passenger and driver security. Branded with fresh new, light blue Ulsterbus livery, the vehicles will operate on urban and rural routes in the Bangor and Newtownards areas.
Richard Hudson, Translink District Manager for Bangor and Ards said:
“We are delighted to be able to provide these new vehicles for our customers in the North Down area. Their arrival means that over 80% of Bangor Town Services will now be fully accessible, complementing the existing Easibus services. The new vehicles’ accessibility features have been particularly welcomed by many of our senior passengers and parents with small children.
Richard added: “We have taken delivery of 350 new buses over the last 2 years so these additional 22 new vehicles are fantastic news for our passengers. In conjunction with ongoing changes and innovations within Ulsterbus operations they will play a key role in delivering the challenging growth targets set out in the Regional Transportation Strategy.”
