New improved Ulsterbus services on the way for Omagh
Ulsterbus this week announced details of a new and improved bus service for the Omagh area, scheduled for introduction in November as part of Translink’s wider Ulsterbus Strategic Review.
Local Ulsterbus District Manager, Sean Falls explained, “Designed for ease of use the new simplified and standardised modern route network will offer better services for more people. Key improvements include: an enhanced and extended timetable for the Omagh Town Service, beginning at the new earlier time of 7.30am and operating on an hourly basis right through until 6.40pm, Monday to Saturday; easier connections with other Ulsterbus and Goldline services; greatly enhanced accessibility with the introduction of new low floor vehicles and improved passenger information in simple, easy to use colour-coded route maps.
“This follows the recent introduction of six additional Goldline Express (273) services which operate Monday to Friday direct between Omagh and Belfast.
“In addition, Smartcards will be available free of charge until the end of January 2007 meaning passengers save the initial £1.50 cost of the card. A special introductory £1.20 off-peak adult day ticket will also be available on town services until the end of January 2007.
“Enhancements will also be made on Omagh County Key Routes with timetable improvements to services operating between Omagh and Castlederg, Dungannon, Fintona and Sixmilecross.”
“However, while much has been achieved there is still much to do and Translink is committed to working in partnership with the Department for Regional Development (DRD) Road Service and Omagh District Council to progress key infrastructure projects in order to improve bus priority measures in the Omagh area.” Sean added.
Translink’s Ulsterbus Strategic Review will be completed over three years and is designed to transform attractiveness, effectiveness and efficiency of Ulsterbus services. It is designed to build on the early successes of the Belfast Metro and new improved Goldline services (14% and 22% growth respectively).
New timetables are now available from Omagh Buscentre for both town services and key county services.
Passengers who would like further information about the new Ulsterbus Omagh services can contact Translink’s Call Centre on 028 9066 6630 or alternatively contact the Omagh Ulsterbus depot on 028 8224 2711.
